New Mobile Site
We have just launched a new mobile version of this site - m.trainspots. This page will use your smart device's GPS to loctate you and guide you to locations that are close to your present location.
Location notes
This is a local station where the High speed trains to and from Amsterdam / Brussel / Paris will pass through.
Railway type and traffic
Mainline, with mainly high speed and some local traffic.
There is no freight as this goes via another route avoiding Airport Schiphol.
Environment
A quiet station, during the week there are a lot of business travellers. There are some shelters if the weather turns bad.
Road directions
  • Take the A10 in Amsterdam Nieuw-West from the Rozengracht and s105.
  • Continue on the A10.
  • Take the A4 / E19 to Taurusavenue in Hoofddorp.
  • Take exit 3-Hoofddorp from the A4 / E19.
  • Continue on Taurusavenue.
  • Drive to the Mercuriusplein.

    Amenities
    There is one paid toilet down stairs and two small shops where you can get coffee, or other drinks, and a few sandwiches.
    Accommodation
    There are not a lot of B&Bs or Hotels in the area. It would be better to go into Central Amsterdam, 20 minutes by train.

    Photographic notes
    The best position for trains coming from Schiphol is around lunchtime from platform one where you see the Higspeed trains.
    You can also take pictures of departing trains from platfrom 2
    From platform 4 you can take pictures in the early morning but in the late afternoon you get a lot of lights straight in the camera from the sun.
    It usually takes about 3 hours before the trains passing cycle back to the same ones you saw earlier.
